STIHL 16 inch x .050" DUROMATIC (Hard Nose) Medium Mount (MM) Bar #3003 000 8613

Here we have a very special bar in the  STIHL DUROMATIC Hard Nose Chainsaw Bar in 16 inch x .050 or 1.3mm gauge in the medium mount configuration.
.050' bars have always been my bar of choice, it's just so hard to get them now. If you know you know right. Less centrifical inertia, mass etc and more options for longevity etc etc...
 
This one fits the medium range of saws from the 024, 038, 044, 066, 660, 661 styles plus many more (see below for the full list).
The special thing is you can run any pitch of chain just as long as the gauge is .050" or 1.3mm for example... you can run .325 - 67DL or 3/8 - 60DL. How cool is that!, like one bar doing three types of chain pitch. That is pretty awesome if you ask me!
These bars are fantastic as they are just so durable with a simple design (no moving parts) and they are strong and long lasting too. My old mate and mentor George Giblett (farmer, WWII soldier, bushman, legend, etc) put me onto using Hard Nosed Bars years ago now and he was dead right, they are the best!
Some people carry on about friction in the tip and loss of power through that but it's not true, like Stellite is added to the bar tip and that stuff is so damn hard and slippery, like if you have good oil flow the chain will just wizz around there with no friction at all. The thing is though, is that you need to be a little bit more switched on with the chain tension as it needs to be just right so that when the chain gets to operating temperature that it's not loose and hanging, so to acheive that it takes a bit of experience to know when it's just right when the chain is cold., like think 10% looser than a sprocket nosed bar when its cold and you will have it right, like anything practice and experience will get you there.
Anyways that is how I see these bars... great value for sure
